The Oregon Department of Forestry has closed the Lost Lake Recreation Site from June 12-30 to complete improvements that include adding more parking and improving access. Lost Lake Road from Lower Nehalem County Road to the Lost Lake boat ramp will be closed during that period. The lake itself will remain accessible from the east via Highway 26/Quartz Creek Mainline/August Fire Road.
The Oregon National Guard’s 224 Engineer Company, part of the 1249th Engineer Battalion, will perform the work as part of the Guard’s Innovative Readiness Training program.
Innovative Readiness Training provides real-world training opportunities for service members and units to prepare them for their wartime missions while supporting the needs of America's communities.
The purpose of these civil-military programs is to improve military readiness while simultaneously providing quality services to communities through America. This is in keeping with a long military tradition to benefit both units and their home communities.
If the improvement work is completed prior to June 30, the department will announce the reopening on its website, www.oregon.gov/ODF/FIELD/ASTORIA/aboutastoria.shtml
