| Mission |
|
The Oregon Forest Carbon Stakeholders Workgroup was convened in January 2008 to develop recommendations on the role of forests in the carbon cap-and-trade market systems currently being explored by the Western Climate Initiative.
The work group met monthly until September 2008 and membership included regional forestry associations from Oregon, Washington, and California, forest products producers, forest landowners, and conservation groups. Academics, carbon buyers, carbon aggregators, and government officials from across the nation have also participated in meetings.
Support for the working group is provided by the Governor's Office and the Oregon Department of Forestry. Oregon State University, Oregon Forest Resources Institute and other academic and non-governmental institutions investigating solutions to climate change have contributed to the deliberations of the workgroup.

More than 50 people have participated in meetings and are on the mailing distribution for the workgroup.
A “Core Group” of participants representing a range of interests was identified early in the process. The Core Group is comprised of a specific list of representatives from organizations and individuals who are committed to prepare for and participate in all meetings and participate in collaborative decision-making.

The workgroup has not met since September 2008. Additional work is not being done on these working drafts. This area contains those items identified by the group as working draft documents.
Principles Document
The ideas expressed in this Principles Document are not agreed to by the Workgroup. It was drafted by a subcommittee of the Workgroup as a straw proposal to assess the level of agreement or disagreement on important issues. The document has been used to focus attention on important issues and as such has been an important tool for the Workgroup. It is posted on this site for that purpose.
