SALEM - Lincoln City residents who need to take a drive test to get their licenses will have to travel a little further beginning March 18. That’s when the Lincoln City DMV office will no longer offer passenger vehicle drive testing. Of course, you can still take your knowledge test there, just not your drive test.

House: When you call to make an appointment for a drive test, it will be scheduled at Newport or another field office. You can actually take your drive test at many places in the state. :09

Public Information Officer David House said DMV appointment schedulers will work with callers to find a convenient time and place for the driving test. In a related change, the Newport DMV office will no longer offer motorcycle riding tests. House said an Oregon law is phasing out riding tests at DMV offices anyway.

House: The Newport DMV will cease doing motorcycle rider skills testing. They’ll still be doing the knowledge test there. But Oregon is about halfway through a 4-year transition from doing motorcycle rider testing at the DMV offices and instead doing them through Team Oregon, which also provides the basic rider training. :19

These and other changes at DMV offices are part of ODOT’s re-balancing of workloads, based on reduced staffing across the state and legislative changes to DMV services. To get local DMV office phone numbers, see your local phone book or visit Oregon DMV.com. At the website, you can find other valuable information as well.

House: Before you go to the DMV, it’s always a good idea to check Oregon DMV.com first so you can see what you might need to bring to prepare for your transaction. :09

Extra actualities

House: Oregon is phasing out the DMV version of the motorcycle test in favor of Team Oregon. People are required to take the Team Oregon rider training and passing the test there qualifies them for the endorsement at DMV, so they no longer need to take the motorcycle test at DMV. :18

House: These changes are part of DMV’s ongoing statewide rebalancing of workload with the reduced staff levels at DMV across the state over the past few years. :09
