Suggested lead: Stayton DMV ends drive tests
SALEM - DMV will no longer conduct passenger car drive tests at its Stayton office as of May 20th. According to Public Information Officer David House, other DMV locations will remain available for drive tests nearby.
House: When you call the Stayton drive test appointment phone number, the staff there will connect you with an appointment at another office of your choice. In fact you can take a drive test anywhere at any of the Oregon DMVs that offer passenger car drive tests. :16
Locations customers may want to schedule drive test appointments at include north or south Salem, Albany or Lebanon. One of the reasons DMV will not offer drive tests at Stayton is because growth in the area has made finding a good test route difficult.
House: We can offer a more rigorous and safer drive test route at some of the other cities rather than Stayton. :06
In fact, DMV had made the drive tests longer at Stayton and still couldn’t get all the maneuvers in that are required for a proper test. Another reason for the change, according to House, is that DMV is continuing to re-balance services with reduced staff levels brought on by tightening state budgets.
Reporting from Salem, I’m Shelley Snow.
Among the options for other drive tests in the valley are both north and south Salem, Albany, Lebanon, and there are others depending on where you specifically live and what’s convenient for you. :12
