The Oregon Department of Transportation is seeking project proposals for the federally-funded Transportation Enhancement program. Approximately $13 million is available statewide for projects that strengthen the cultural, aesthetic and environmental value of the transportation system. Proposed projects must be ready for contract in 2011 – 2012.
Applications will be accepted from local, state or federal agencies, Indian tribes and tax-funded districts. A private organization can apply in partnership with a public agency. Recipients must supply matching funds to cover at least 10.27 percent of the project cost. A notice of intent is due from all prospective applicants by Feb. 1, 2008. Completed applications are due May 2, 2008. Projects are selected through a statewide competitive process based on written application and field review.
Since 1992, ODOT’s Transportation Enhancement program has helped 188 communities in Oregon with sidewalk, bike path and streetscape projects, restoration of railroad depots and other historical buildings, and construction of viewpoints for interpretive or historical sites along Oregon roads and highways. A complete list of the 12 eligible activities is online.
Selected projects will become part of the Oregon’s 2010 – 2013 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program. Results will be announced after approval by the Oregon Transportation Commission in late 2008.
Application materials will be available for download beginning Dec. 3 at http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/LGS/, or e-mail patricia.r.fisher@odot.state.or.us.
