The Final Review Committee for ConnectOregon II has agreed on a prioritized list of proposed transportation projects for the $100 million lottery-bond-backed program. The recommended list now goes to the Oregon Transportation Commission for a public hearing on May 13 in Salem. The OTC will consider these recommendations and public input and make a final decision at its June 19 meeting. The complete ranked listing is available at www.oregon.gov/ODOT/COMM/CO/index.shtml.
"These projects represent key investments in keeping freight, commuters and tourists moving safely and efficiently, now and into the future," Governor Ted Kulongoski said. "Our marine ports, airports and rail lines are critical to keeping our transportation system viable and to ensuring economic growth and stability throughout the state."
Over two days in Portland, the 25-member Final Review Committee, a volunteer group comprised of representatives from air, rail, freight, marine and public transit advisory committees, regional transportation advisory committees, industry groups and other stakeholders, ranked the original list of 70 projects applying for a total of $178.5 million. Prior to the final review, projects were evaluated and ranked by modal committees (such as the Rail Advisory Council), regional transportation groups (such as the South West Oregon Area Commission on Transportation), a feasibility consultant and ODOT staff.
ConnectOregon II, approved by the 2007 Legislature and coordinated by the Oregon Department of Transportation, provides funding for transportation projects, other than highways, that improve connections, relieve congestion and help goods and people move throughout the state.
