Administrative Review
An Administrative Review is DMV’s review of the documents received by DMV from either a court or another authority that led to a sanction placed on your driver record. Administrative Reviews are done upon request to verify that:
  • Something was not erroneously placed on your driver record, and
  • All appropriate laws and rules were followed by DMV.
An Administrative Review is not a meeting between you and a DMV employee or impartial third party.

The suspension or revocation will remain in effect during the administrative review.

Who is entitled to an Administrative Review?
Many people who receive a notice of suspension, revocation or cancellation from DMV are entitled to an Administrative Review. The notice you received from DMV will indicate if you are entitled to one. (See below to learn how to request an Administrative Review.)

If you are entitled to an Administrative Review, it is because DMV received a court document, conviction(s) or notice from another state or authority that by law requires DMV to suspend, revoke or cancel your driving privileges or identification card. DMV did not make a determination that led to your sanction.

During an Administrative Review, DMV will make certain no error was made. DMV cannot overrule a court conviction. If the suspension, revocation or cancellation was properly ordered, or is required by law because of the particular conviction(s) you received, DMV cannot overturn or delay the sanction no matter what extenuating circumstances exist.

Note: If your notice tells you that you are entitled to a hearing under Oregon's Administrative Procedures Act, please see Administrative Hearings.  There is not an online option for requesting a hearing.
