| Springfield DMV will open at new location Jan. 8 |

After just over a quarter century in its current location, the Springfield DMV office will move in January to a larger building with more space for customers and a larger parking area.
"Since DMV set up the current Springfield office in 1971, the area's population has continued to grow, and we've expanded staff there to the limit of the building," DMV Field Services Manager Stephanie Miles said. "We needed more space to accommodate customers, not only in the building but also in the parking lot, as well as room to add staff in the future."
The new Springfield office, located at 204 30th St., will open Jan. 8. Business hours remain the same: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays except Wednesdays, when the office opens at 9 a.m.
DMV will close the current location at the end of the business day Jan. 3, a Thursday, and make the move over the weekend through Monday, Jan. 7.
The new location will have more lobby space for customers to wait and do business, and more parking for customers. The 6,148-square-foot building is nearly twice the size of the current 2,520-square-foot building.
The new parking lot also will have a larger drive-test area and designated parking spaces for large vehicles. Improvements to the existing building and parking lot to meet DMV's customers' needs were made during the fall.
"We think the new location will meet the area's needs for the next 20 years or longer," Miles said.
Springfield-area customers who need to visit a DMV office on Jan. 4 or Jan. 7 have two alternatives in Eugene: the office at 2870 W. 10th Place will be open both days, and the office at Valley River Center mall will be open Jan. 4 (it is closed Mondays).
Customers also may wish to check www.OregonDMV.com for information, forms and to do some business online, such as submitting a change of address, notice of sale of their vehicle or renewal of their vehicle registration.
