August 5, 2009
LA GRANDE, Ore. – Beginning August 5, the La Grande DMV office located at 3014 Island Ave. will be temporarily closed for about two weeks. The DMV will close at 1 p.m. on August 5 and reopen at 9 a.m. August 17. Both the subflooring and the carpet will be replaced in order to eliminate asbestos in the original floor of the state-owned building.
The project will require more than a week of work, including removal of counters, equipment and furniture in order to do the repairs to the structure, then reinstallation of the office furnishings and equipment. Private contractors from the region have been selected to do the work, including the asbestos abatement.
Walk-in access for the Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation's District 13 office located in the same building will also be closed to the public for one day on August 7.
