Abandoned Vehicles on Your Property
If you have an abandoned vehicle on your property and have no knowledge of who owns the vehicle or why it was left there, there are no provisions in the law that allow you to claim ownership in the vehicle. DMV cannot give you the name or address of the person who owns the vehicle just so you can contact them.

Getting a Vehicle Towed
ORS 98.830 outlines the steps you can take to have an abandoned vehicle towed from your private property.
  1. The person affixes a notice to the vehicle stating that the vehicle will be towed if it is not removed. The notice required by this subsection must remain on the vehicle for 72 hours before the vehicle may be removed.
  2. The person notifies the local law enforcement agency of the intent to have the vehicle towed.
  3. The person fills out and signs a form that includes:
    • A description of the vehicle to be towed;
    • The location of the property from which the vehicle will be towed; and
    • A statement that the person has complied with subsections (1) and (2) of this section. [1995 c.758 §1]
