Motorcycle Definition
ORS 801.365 defines a motorcycle as any self-propelled (motorized) vehicle other than a moped or farm tractor that:
  1. Has a seat or saddle for use of the rider;
  2. Is designed to be operated on the ground upon wheels; and
  3. Is designed to travel with not more than three wheels in contact with the ground.

Motorcycles with Enclosed Cab
Operators of motorcycles with an enclosed cab are not required to wear a helmet or have a motorcycle endorsement.

Fees
  • $48.00 for renewals and when titling and registering used motorcycles. 
  • $96.00 for a four-year period if the motorcycle is new, is being registered and titled for the first time, and is not hybrid or electric-powered. 
  • After an initial four year period, renewals revert to a two year period. 
  • If the motorcycle does not already have an Oregon registration plate, a plate fee also is required (see registration fee page for plate fees).
  • Any application for title must include the title fee and any other applicable fees.
Note:  Motorcycles may or may not have been manufactured or equipped for highway use. To legally operate a motorcycle or similar vehicle on the public roads of Oregon, the vehicle must meet Federal highway safety and equipment requirements, Federal EPA requirements, and insurance requirements. License Plates
The standard issue plate for a motorcycle has a yellow background with blue letters and numbers.  Motorcycles may also have a Custom (Personalized) plate, or they may qualify for an Antique Vehicle, Special VehicleDisabled Veteran, Ex-POW, or Amateur (HAM) Radio Operator plate.  Regardless of the plate type, a single plate is issued and is required to be displayed on the rear of the motorcycle.
