Vehicle Registration Renewal
Renewal Reminder
DMV mails a renewal reminder to the vehicle owner 45 to 60 days before the registration expires. This reminder is also your renewal application.
If you lost or did not receive a reminder, see this information.

Renewal Options
Renew Online
Check your eligibility to see if you can renew online.

Use a credit or debit card with the VISA®  or MasterCard® logo. If you need your stickers mailed to a one-time, special mailing address, you cannot renew online but you may renew by mail.

When renewing online, you can change to a different plate type listed as an option on your renewal reminder.  If you want to apply for other types of plates not listed on your renewal reminder, see Changing to a Different License Plate.

Renew by Mail
Mail your renewal application to DMV using the envelope included with your reminder. Include a check or money order for the registration fee listed on your application. DMV's mailing address is:
DMV
1905 Lana Ave NE
Salem
, OR 97314

Renew at DEQ
NOTE:
This option is only available if your vehicle must be tested by DEQ. See the emissions testing page to find out if your vehicle must be tested by DEQ.

Bring your completed renewal reminder to DEQ.  The renewal must be signed by one of the vehicle’s registered owners.  Take the whole renewal reminder with you. Do not separate the pieces.
You can receive new stickers at DEQ if:
  • Your vehicle must be tested, and
  • Your vehicle passes its emissions test, and
  • You have your renewal reminder or a DMV-approved Application, and
  • You pay the registration fee and the inspection fee. DEQ accepts cash, or a credit or debit card with the VISA® or MasterCard® logo.
You cannot receive your new stickers at DEQ if:
  • You do not meet all the requirements in the above list, or
  • You need to make changes to the vehicle's registration (other than an address change), or
  • The car is new to Oregon and is not registered yet in Oregon.

Visit a DMV Office for Complex Transactions
If you need to make any changes other than a change of address, visit a DMV office.  Address changes may be completed online

Lost Your Renewal Reminder
If you lost or did not receive the renewal reminder:
  • Call DMV at (503) 945-5400 to have another one mailed to you, or
  • Renew by mail or at a DMV office using an Application for Registration, Form 268, or
  • If your vehicle requires DEQ testing, you may visit one of the following DMV offices to pick up a DMV-approved application to take to a DEQ testing station. You may then get new stickers at DEQ if your vehicle passes the test and you pay the fees.

Your New Stickers & Card
Put the registration stickers (tags) on your license plates as soon as you receive them. See Sticker Placement for instructions.
Keep your registration card in your vehicle.

If Your Vehicle Is Inoperable
You do not need to notify DMV if you choose not to renew registration because the vehicle is not being driven or is inoperable. When you wish to operate your vehicle again, contact DMV to renew your registration.  You must notify DMV if your vehicle has been totaled or otherwise damaged.

Information about damaged vehicles is found at http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/vehicle/damage.shtml

If the vehicle needs to be retitled as a damaged vehicle, a new title must be obtained before renewing registration.
