Light Vehicle Trip Permits
About This Permit
This trip permit allows operation of these unregistered vehicles:
  • Passenger vehicles (10,000 pounds and under)
  • Light trailers and special use trailers (8,000 pounds and under)
  • Low-speed vehicles
  • Mopeds
  • Motorcycles
Only two light vehicle trip permits can be issued each 12-month period, unless there is a complete change in ownership of the vehicle.

How to Buy This Permit
You may buy a Light Vehicle Trip Permit at any DMV office or by mail.  Provide the following to DMV (there is no form to fill out):
  • Information about you:
    • Name
    • Address
    • Driver license or ID number and state of issuance (if not Oregon)
  • Vehicle information:
    • Year
    • Make and model
    • Vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Proof of the VIN is required, if the vehicle is not titled in Oregon, or Oregon DMV has no record of the vehicle.  Examples of acceptable proof of the VIN are:
    • Vehicle registration card
    • Insurance card or policy
    • Sales contract
    • Pencil tracing of the VIN
(NOTE: Copies are acceptable if mailing your request)
  • Insurance information for motor vehicles only (not trailers):  Insurance company name and policy number that covers this vehicle
  • Fee: $20 for 21 consecutive days
