Recreational Vehicle (RV) Trip Permits
About This Permit
This trip permit allows operation of unregistered campers, travel trailers, and motor homes no longer than 45 feet.
 
Recreational Trip Permits are issued for periods of 1 to 10 days. A recreational vehicle may only be issued recreational vehicle trip permits that total not more than 10 days within any 12-month period.
 
Each permit, no matter the number of days it is issued for, is $30. If you mail your application for a Recreational Trip Permit, specify the length of time of the trip permit.

How to Buy This Permit
You need to provide all of the following to DMV. You can send us this information in a letter (there is no form to fill out).
  • Information about you:
    • Name
    • Address
    • Driver license or ID number and state of issuance (if not Oregon )
  • Vehicle information:
    • Year
    • Make and model
    • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • Proof of ownership: If the person who is buying the trip permit is not the current owner as shown on Oregon DMV records, provide a document showing proof of ownership.  Examples of acceptable proof of ownership are:
    • Bill of sale from previous owner
    • Secure odometer statement or secure power of attorney
    • Copy of insurance policy covering vehicle
    • Copy of contract or agreement to purchase vehicle
    • Out of state ownership document
    • Legal document awarding ownership of the vehicle
                (NOTE: Copies are acceptable if mailing your request)
  •  Insurance information for motor vehicles only (not trailers or campers): insurance company name and policy number that covers this vehicle
  • Fee: $30 for 1 to 10 days (specify the length of time of the trip permit – from 1 to 10 days)
