Geotechnical Engineers practice a specialty of Civil Engineering. These specialists generally evaluate and design earth structures; develop methods for effectively using earth and rock materials in construction; characterize ground capabilities in supporting structural loads; evaluate and select foundation systems; evaluate the constructability of geotechnical project elements; and monitor/inspect geotechnical project elements during construction. The Geotechnical Engineers in this section are responsible for statewide practices, standards, training, expertise, and asset management for the geotechnical disciplines within ODOT.
