Dundee Queue Detection System

Reduced visibility around a hilly section of State Route 99E near Dundee has resulted in a high number of rear-end collisions. In 1999, ODOT installed a warning sign that flashes when vehicles are queued at the top of the hill and are not visible to approaching vehicles.
This alert provides drivers with additional time to respond and reduces the likelihood that they will be involved in a rear-end collision. There were only four crashes in the 10-month period after installation as opposed to nine crashes in the 10-month period before installation of this system.
