| Description |
|

The Green Light Preclearance Program allows safe and legal trucks to bypass Oregon weigh stations, saving time and money. The system is in place at 22 locations throughout Oregon, as shown in the map.
Scales are embedded in the roadway about one mile ahead of a weigh station to weigh trucks as they approach at high speed. Automatic vehicle identification equipment scans for signals from a transponder mounted on the inside of the truck windshield. The transponder contains a unique code that is used to identify the carrier and specific truck.

A computer processes the information, verifies truck size and weight, and checks the company’s registration and safety records.
If everything is verified as acceptable, a green light signal is sent back to the transponder, indicating that the truck can proceed without pulling into the station.
To participate in the program, trucks must register with ODOT.
