Road User Fee Task Force to Hold Public Hearing in Pendleton May 2

The Oregon Road User Fee Task Force will hold a public hearing in Pendleton on Thursday, May 2, 2002, at 7 PM in the Red Lion Inn, Yakima Room, 304 SE Nye Avenue.

The hearing will begin with a presentation by Task Force Adminstrator Jim Whitty on Oregon’s transportation funding challenge and the mission of the Road User Fee Task Force.
Public testimony will begin at 7:15 PM. Citizens are invited to attend and share their views about transportation funding options.

The Oregon Legislature established the Task Force in the 2001 legislative session to examine every possible revenue option for transportation funding. As fuel efficiency increases and new fuel sources become more widespread, such as fuel cells and hybrid electric vehicles, the amount of money to construct and maintain roads and bridges is projected to decrease. The mission of the Task Force is to make recommendations to the Legislature about promising revenue options, and then sponsor a series of pilot projects around the state in 2003 to determine feasibility and public acceptance.

Road User Fee Task Force Members attending:
  • Representative Joanne Verger
  • Mayor Jim Torrey, City of Eugene
  • Judge Laura Pryor, Gilliam County Judge
  • John Watt, Oregon Highway Users’ Alliance
  • John Charles, Cascade Policy Institute
  • Dr. Chris Bell, OSU College of Engineering
  • Randy Papé, Oregon Transportation Commission
  • Jim Whitty, Task Force Administrator
On Friday, May 2, the Task Force will hold its regular monthly meeting in the same location at 8:30 AM to discuss new revenue options.
