Road User Fee Task Force Public Hearing June 4
The Oregon Road User Fee Task Force will meet Tuesday, May 4, in the Commission Room at the Port of Portland Building, 121 NW Everett, Portland. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m., with opportunity for public comment at 7:45 p.m.
The meeting will begin with an introduction of RUFTF members and a statement of Purpose of Meeting. The committee will then have presentations on:
- The state of Portland’s Street and Highway System, by Victor Rhodes, Office of Transportation, Director for the City of Portland.
- The challenge of meeting Oregon's road finance needs as gas tax revenues decline in the future, by Representative Bruce Starr, chair of the Road User Fee Task Force.
The Oregon Legislature established the Task Force in the 2001 legislative session to examine every possible revenue option for transportation funding. As fuel efficiency increases and new fuel sources become more widespread, such as fuel cells and hybrid electric vehicles, the amount of money to construct and maintain roads and bridges is projected to decrease. The mission of the Task Force is to make recommendations to the Legislature about promising revenue options, and then sponsor a series of pilot projects around the state in 2003 to determine feasibility and public acceptance.
