Bridge Program Background
The Oregon Transportation Commission, the Governor and the Legislature have placed increasing priority on Oregon's bridge program and have shifted funds in that direction during the past two biennia. The 2003-2005 bridge budget request is more than a 100 percent increase over the 1997-1999 biennium. The percentage of the ODOT Highway Fund budget allocated to the bridge program has more than doubled in the same period. In 2003, the Legislature passed House Bill 2041, which provides $1.3 billion for the replacement and repair of bridges on state highways.
