| Project Update |
|
Construction work on the I-5 Delta Park widening project started in April 2008. Phase I involves widening the freeway and lengthening the entrance and exit ramps at Victory Boulevard and Columbia Boulevard.
Read the April 2008 newsletter for detailed information about how this project will be constructed.

| Traffic Impacts |
|
Construction on I-5 will require occasional lane closures on some of the ramps and cross streets(Columbia Blvd., Schmeer Rd. and Victory Blvd.) to ensure the safety of the traveling public during construction. There will also be occasional nighttime lane closures on I-5 in both directions and a smaller number of short duration full closures on I-5 when the new bridge beams are set into place. To reduce inconvenience to travelers, all three northbound lanes and two southbound lanes will be kept open during peak hours. Motorists will be given advance notice about lane or road closures and expected delays.

| Focus on Freight |
|
ODOT realizes the importance of commercial freight mobility along the I-5 corridor and has included businesses in the planning process. ODOT staff and project team members have made presentations to the Portland Freight Committee and NINA (Northwest Industrial Neighborhood Association) to help their members plan for the anticipated construction impacts. Meetings have also been held with the Swan Island Transportation Management Association and HiNoon (Hayden Island Neighborhood Network) to discuss upcoming detour routes and get feedback.

| What Happens Next? |
|
Hamilton Construction, an Oregon-based contractor, was awarded the contract for the project. Work started in April 2008.
Construction of local street improvements will be conducted in a future phase of the project, once funding is secured.
