Recent inspections of the I-84 Hood River Bridge at mile point 64.2 show several worn sections of the eastbound bridge deck that need to be repaired. ODOT crews began work to repair the concrete bridge deck in late October 2009.
ODOT estimates that the project will be completed by November 26, 2009. In order to reduce traffic impacts in the area and finish on schedule, both daytime and nighttime work will take place. This project has been accelerated in order to complete work before construction begins on the I-84 bridge at exit 64 (Bundle 224).

To complete the necessary bridge work and allow the concrete to cure properly, ODOT anticipates reducing eastbound and westbound I-84 traffic to one travel lane in each direction for the entire duration of the project; the westbound auxiliary lane between exit 64 and exit 63 will remain open. The I-84 eastbound on-ramp at exit 63 (Second Street) will be closed for ten days in November; traffic will be detoured (through downtown along Oak and State) to the on-ramp at Button Bridge Road/Highway 35. The I-84 westbound on-ramp from exit 64 and the eastbound off-ramp to exit 64 will remain open.
In addition, ODOT anticipates closing part of the bike/pedestrian path at the west end of the bridge. Bicyclists and pedestrians will be directed to use the Second Street overpass as an alternate route to reach the bike/pedestrian bridge to the north.

The I-84 Bridge and Exit 64 project is scheduled to begin construction in early 2010. The project will consist of replacing the I-84 bridge over Button Bridge Road (at milepost 64.4), which is the connector road to Highway 35, and making improvements to the exit 64 interchange beneath the bridge. To reduce traffic impacts in the area, ODOT has accelerated the I-84 Hood River Bridge Repair Project so that construction on both projects does not take place simultaneously.
