A contractor for the Oregon Department of Transportation started June 2007 on the U.S. 26 (Mt. Hood Highway): Langensand Road - E. Cherryville Drive project. Work was completed October 2007.
The project included installation of cable median barrier to separate the eastbound and westbound travel lanes from opposing traffic in an area that has seen several fatal crossover accidents. The cable barrier was installed along a 2-mile stretch of U.S. 26 between W. Cherryville and E. Cherryville.
In addition to the installation of the barrier, new paving was applied to U.S.26 and rumble strips added to roadway to alert drivers if they are moving out of their travel lanes. Much of the project construction, including paving work, occured summer 2007.
