I-84 Construction: Tanner Creek Bridge Repair at Bonneville Dam
LogoTanner Creek Bridge Repair at Bonneville Dam

This project was completed July 8, 2016.

Wind, rain, ice, sun; the Columbia River Gorge gets it all. And while these weather  variations make this a beautiful part of the state, it takes a toll on the highway pavement. The Oregon Department of Transportation repaired the bridge over Tanner Creek (at Bonneville Dam), which had become damaged over time.

The project repaved and rehabilitated the bridge, extending the life of the structure, as well as making a safer more comfortable driving experience through the Columbia River Gorge.

2016 Construction*

What? Bikes are advised to use the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail during construction. The project:
  • Repaired and repaved the bridge that crosses Tanner Creek, just to the west of Bonneville Dam to extend the life of the structure and create a smoother ride for travelers. This project also repaved the on- and off-ramps to Bonneville Dam (exit 40).
  • Construction required a 10-week continuous closure of the westbound  ramp (exit 40) from Bonneville Dam that was completed before the Memorial Day weekend in May 2016.
  • Did not restrict fishing access for those fishing at Bonneville Dam.
When? Day and night construction from February to early July 2016. The project was completed on July 8, 2016.
