Interstate 5

Interstate 5 at the Iowa Street Viaduct

Project Description: This project replaces a viaduct on I-5 that crosses a ravine at SW Iowa Street, between Terwilliger Boulevard (exit 297) and Corbett Avenue (exit 298) in Portland, and includes building a temporary detour bridge on the west side of I-5.

Traffic Impacts: Traffic on I-5 northbound has been shifted to the new viaduct bridge while the contractor begins construction on the new southbound viaduct bridge.

The speed limit on I-5 is reduced to 50 mph in the work area. This speed reduction is in effect 24 hours a day and will remain in place for the duration of the project. Please be alert to enhanced police traffic patrols in the work area.

Interstate 5 Wilsonville Road Interchange

Project Description: Work is under way on a project to improve safety on Wilsonville Road at the I-5 interchange. The contractor will expand Wilsonville Road from six to eight lanes near the I-5 interchange, improve the I-5 on- and off-ramps, and add landscaping and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Traffic Impacts: None anticipated this week. The contractor will be working on landscaping off the roadway.

Interstate 84

Interstate 84, Interstate 5 to Interstate 205

Project Description: This project will grind and pave all lanes on I-84 between I-5 and I-205, pave most of the on and off ramps, replace freeway signage, restripe the I-84 westbound merge with I-5 and pave and repair the NE Halsey Street overpass at 82nd Avenue and I-84. This project will require several full weekend closures of I-84 and full nighttime closures of I-84 and Halsey Street to complete.

Interstate 84 Eastbound, Halsey Street (Exit 7) to I-205 Northbound (Exit 8)

Project Description: This project will improve congestion and safety by adding a new “auxiliary” lane to the two-lane section of I-84 eastbound between Halsey Street (exit 7) and I-205 northbound (exit 8).

Traffic Impacts: None anticipated this week as the contractor completes various construction tasks off the roadway.

Interstate 84 Westbound near NE 223rd/Fairview Avenue

Project Description: This project will install a new electronic variable message sign on I-84 westbound near NE 223rd/Fairview Avenue in Fairview.

Traffic Impacts: There will be occasional daytime shoulder closures this week for installation of erosion control devices.

Interstate 84 at the Sandy River and Jordan Road Bridges

Project Description: This project replaces two bridges on I-84 over the Sandy River east of exit 17 in Troutdale, and repairs two bridges over Jordan Road east of the Sandy River at exit 18.

Traffic Impacts: Traffic on I-84 has been shifted to a new temporary alignment and the speed limit is reduced to 50 mph. Watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting the freeway on I-84 westbound.

Expect alternating one-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals and daytime lane closures with flaggers directing traffic on Jordan Road at I-84. The vertical clearance on Jordan Road under the overpass has been reduced to 14 feet, 9 inches. Please obey parking restrictions in this area.

Sandy River users can expect to see increased work activities throughout the month of May, including work crews near and in the waterway. Approach the work area with caution, stay clear of construction activities and obey instructions.

Interstate 84: Historic Columbia River Highway Trail, John B. Yeon State Park to Moffett Creek

Project Description: This project constructs a new 1.6-mile section of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail adjacent to I-84, between John B. Yeon State Park and Moffett Creek.

Traffic Impacts: The right lane of I-84 eastbound near exit 37 and the right or left lane of I-84 westbound at milepost 39 will close intermittently for various construction activities from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Interstate 84: Exit 35 (Dodson/Ainsworth State Park) to Exit 44 (Cascade Locks/Bridge of the Gods)

Project Description: This project will replace the driving surface on four bridges on I-84 between exit 35 (Dodson/Ainsworth State Park) and exit 44 (Cascade Locks/Bridge of the Gods) in the Bonneville Dam area. The bridges being resurfaced are:

  • I-84 westbound at Dodson, just west of exit 35
  • I-84 eastbound at Dodson, just west of exit 35
  • I-84 eastbound over Eagle Creek (milepost 41.5)
  • I-84 westbound over Ruckel Creek (milepost 42)

Traffic Impacts: The left lane will be closed continually on I-84 eastbound at the Eagle Creek Bridge, starting just west of the Tooth Rock Tunnel, through the end of the month.

The left lane will be closed continually on I-84 westbound at the Ruckel Creek bridge through the end of the month. This closure may cause traffic congestion on I-84 westbound through this area on the weekends.

Interstate 205

Interstate 205 NE Airport Way Interchange

Project Description: This project will help improve traffic flow at this busy interchange by constructing a new free-flowing on ramp from Airport Way westbound onto I-205 northbound. Motorists on Airport Way eastbound will have two left turn lanes onto I-205 northbound and will no longer have to share signal time with westbound motorists on Airport Way.

Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect daytime single lane closures on Airport Way eastbound and westbound at I-205 and on the I-205 northbound on ramp, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., for various construction activities.

There will also be occasional daytime short-duration closures of the I-205 multi-use bike/ped path on the north side of Airport Way, Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for pile driving next to the path. Flaggers will stop trail users for no more than 20 minutes at a time.

Interstate 205 Multi-Use Path at SE Division Street

Project Description: This project will build a new section of the I-205 Multi-Use Path that will split off from the existing path approximately 360 feet north of SE Division Street, cross under Division Street next to the MAX Green Line and reconnect with the multi-use path at the north end of the Division Street Max stop. This new route will offer path users a non-stop connection through Division Street, without the need to wait for the signal at the crosswalk.

Traffic Impacts: There will be intermittent daytime impacts to path users on the north side of Division Street this week while the contractor excavates and builds retaining walls. Path users should slow down and use caution when traveling through the construction site.  Flaggers may be present to ensure the safety of path users.

U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway)

U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway), Sylvan to I-405

Project Description: This project will pave U.S. 26 from Sylvan to I-405 in Portland, upgrade highway signs and supports, add new lighting and add a new ramp meter on the Zoo on-ramp to U.S. 26 eastbound.

Traffic Impacts: This project is nearly complete. Weather permitting, there will be occasional single lane closures on U.S. 26 eastbound from 8 p.m. on Monday night to 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning for finishing work.

There may also be occasional nighttime closures of the Jefferson Street off ramp from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for electrical work, and daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area for removal of construction signage.

U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway), NW Cornell Road to NW 185th Avenue

Project Description: This project will widen U.S. 26 between NW Cornell Road and 185th Avenue in Beaverton to three lanes in each direction. When complete, there will also be median cable barrier, widened shoulders and new pavement and striping.

Traffic Impacts: This project is substantially complete. However, there may be lane closures on U.S. 26 around the Bethany Boulevard overpass as part of a separate project being built by Washington County. U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway), Multiple Locations

Project Description: This project will install new electronic variable message signs at the following locations:

  • U.S. 26 eastbound between NW Cornelius Pass Road (exit 62) and NW 185th Avenue (exit 64) in Hillsboro
  • U.S. 26 westbound between NW Bethany Boulevard/Cornell Road (exit 65) and NW 185th Avenue (exit 64) east of Hillsboro

Traffic Impacts: There will be occasional daytime shoulder closures at both locations for installation of erosion control devices.

U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) Glencoe Road Interchange

Project Description: This project replaces the Glencoe Road overpass at U.S. 26 in North Plains and improves the highway ramps, bicycle and pedestrian connections, signs, traffic signals, striping and drainage at this interchange. A culvert under Glencoe Road will also be replaced with a bridge.

Traffic Impacts: None anticipated this week as the contractor will work on various tasks off the roadway.

U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) at the W. Fork Dairy Creek Bridge

Project Description: This project will replace the bridge on U.S. 26 over W. Fork Dairy Creek, approximately 1 mile east of OR 47/Staley’s Junction near Banks. A temporary bridge will be built to the north of the existing bridge for U.S. 26 traffic to use as a detour, allowing the highway to remain open during construction. 

Traffic Impacts: Traffic has been shifted onto a new temporary detour bridge while the old bridge is demolished and the new permanent bridge is built.

U.S. 30 Bypass (NE Sandy Boulevard)

U.S. 30 Bypass (Sandy Boulevard), NE 122nd Avenue to NE 141st Avenue

Project Description: This safety improvement project will add a center left-turn lane to this section of Sandy Boulevard, striped bike lanes in both directions and sidewalk on the south side of the road. It will also upgrade the traffic signals at NE 122nd Avenue and NE 138th Avenue and making pedestrian crossing improvements at NE 131st Place.

Traffic Impacts: There may be brief lane closures with flaggers if needed this week while the contractor installs new traffic signal heads at 122nd Avenue and 138th Avenue and new signs.

U.S. 30 (NW St. Helens Road)

 U.S. 30 (NW St. Helens Road), NW McNamee Road to Milepost 17.93
Project Description: This project will repave U.S. 30 in both directions between McNamee Road and milepost 17.93, just east of the Columbia County line, and apply a waterproof membrane to the bridge of McCarty Creek near Cornelius Pass Road.
 
Traffic Impacts: This week, motorists can expect daily lane closures and traffic shifts on U.S. 30 westbound (towards Scappose) from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. for grinding and paving. Direct access to driveways and cross-roads will be restricted at certain times as the paving operation moves through. Motorists will be able to drive past the paving work zone, make a u-turn and access these roads and driveways from the other direction.
 
Motorists will be driving on a rough surface with a two-inch lip between lanes in certain areas. Please slow down and use caution.

U.S. 30 (NW St. Helens Road) at NW Cornelius Pass Road
Project Description: This project will improve safety and mobility at this intersection by adding a longer dedicated right turn lane from U.S. 30 eastbound onto Cornelius Pass Road, adding dedicated right and left turn lanes from Cornelius Road onto U.S. 30, upgrading the traffic signals and signs and making some bike/pedestrian improvements.
 
Traffic Impacts: Daytime shoulder closures are planned on U.S. 30. and Cornelius Pass Road at the intersection for site preparation work.

U.S. 30 (Historic Columbia River Highway)

Historic Columbia River Highway (U.S. 30), Troutdale Bridge to Dabney State Park

Project Description: This project will replace seven sections of old guardrail on the Historic Columbia River Highway (U.S. 30) between the Troutdale Bridge over the Sandy River and Dabney State Park. The new guardrail will look just like the historic, white double-rail sections that are being replaced.

Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect daytime lane closures throughout the project area with flaggers directing traffic between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, for guardrail replacement.

 

Historic Columbia River Highway (U.S. 30) at the Crown Point Viaduct

Project Description: The Federal Highway Administration is repairing the Crown Point Viaduct and restoring the pavement and historic features along the Historic Columbia River Highway (U.S. 30) between Larch Mountain Road and Latourell Falls.

Traffic Impacts: The Historic Columbia River Highway from Larch Mountain Road to Latourell Falls will be CLOSED until noon (12 p.m.) on Friday, May 24, when it will reopen to all traffic. This project is not complete and there will continue to be lane closures with flaggers directing traffic during construction as needed after May 24.

Historic Columbia River Highway/Oak Street (U.S. 30) at 9th Street

Project Description: This project will replace the existing pedestrian crossing sign and beacon with a solar-powered, user activated rapid flashing beacon at the intersection of Oak Street and 9th Street in the City of Hood River.

Traffic Impacts: This week, motorists can expect intermittent daytime lane closures with flaggers directing traffic and short delays, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, for removal of the existing pedestrian crossing sign and beacon.

Oregon Highway 8 (TV Highway)

Oregon Highway 8 (TV Highway), 331st Avenue to Quince Street/OR 47

Project Description: This project will pave TV Highway (OR 8) from 331st Avenue, west of Hillsboro, to Quince Street (OR 47) in Forest Grove.

Traffic Impacts: None anticipated this week. Construction is substantially complete.

Oregon Highway 35 (Mt. Hood Highway)

Oregon Highway 35 (Mt. Hood Highway), Cooper Spur Road to Neal Creek Road

Project Description: This project will repave all lanes and install rumble strips on OR 35 (Mt. Hood Highway) between Cooper Spur Road, south of Odell, and Neal Creek Road near Parkdale.

Traffic Impacts: None anticipated this week. Construction is substantially complete.

Oregon Highway 99E

Oregon Highway 99E (SE Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard) Southbound at SE Ivon Street/SE 4th Place

Project Description: This project will pave and adjust manhole covers on the “jughandle” on-ramp from SE Ivon Street/SE 4th Place onto the OR 99E (Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard) southbound viaduct. Construction will be complete by May 2013.

Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect daytime lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic on the ramp from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The right lane on OR 99E (Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard) southbound starting at Division Street may also be closed this week between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

 

Oregon Highway 99E (Pacific Highway East), 10th Street to Territorial Road

Project Description: Work is under way on an improvement project on OR 99E from 10th Street in Oregon City to Territorial Road in Canby. In addition to paving, the contractor will replace the bridge membranes (a layer between the asphalt and bridge structure) on two bridges in Oregon City and south on OR 99E and improve striping to add a center turn lane in two areas along OR 99E. 

Traffic Impacts: None. Weather permitting, the contractor will start applying permanent lane striping starting on May 20.

Oregon Highway 99W

Oregon Highway 99W (Pacific Highway) at Oregon Highway 217

Project Description: This project will upgrade the existing traffic signals on OR 99W at the ends of the OR 217 on and off ramps in Tigard. In order to provide space for the new signal arms, the southbound sidewalk must also be widened. This will require crews to remove some vegetation and build a retaining wall along the slope.

Traffic Impacts: This project is nearly complete. There will be temporary nighttime lane closures in both directions this week for finishing work. The sidewalk on the north side of OR 99W will be closed until the new sidewalk is poured, which is weather dependent, but should be complete by May 24.  In the meantime, pedestrians will be detoured onto Hall Boulevard. The bike lane will remain open.

 

Oregon Highway 99W (Pacific Highway) at Beef Bend Road

Project Description: This safety project will widen OR 99W at Beef Bend Road in Tigard/King City in order to build a dedicated right turn lane for southbound motorists.

Traffic Impacts: This week, there may be brief traffic delays during the day as trucks enter and exit the work zone from Beef Bend Road. 

The contractor will maintain the temporary bike/ped access through the project area. Bicyclists and pedestrians using the trail near Beef Bend Road should use caution and watch for equipment and construction activities along the path.

Oregon Highway 99W (Pacific Highway), Tualatin River Bridge to Sunset Boulevard

Project Description: This project will grind off the old pavement, repave and restripe OR 99W in both directions between the Tualatin River Bridge in King City and Sunset Boulevard in Sherwood. 

Traffic Impacts: This week, motorists can expect nighttime lane closures and flagging at the intersections on OR 99W in both directions throughout the entire project area from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, for paving and bridge work.

Oregon Highway 99W (Pacific Highway), SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road to SW Sunset Boulevard

Project Description: This project will install a new electronic variable message sign on OR 99W northbound at Cedar Creek, and install four new traffic cameras on OR 99W in at Tualatin-Sherwood Road, Edy Road, Meinecke Road and Sunset Boulevard in Sherwood.

Traffic Impacts: There will be occasional daytime shoulder closures at all locations for installation of erosion control devices.

Oregon Highway 213 (Cascade Highway South)

Oregon Highway 213 (Cascade Highway South), I-205 to Redland Road Overcrossing (Jughandle)

Project Description: This project will widen OR 213 between Interstate 205 and Redland Road and build a new overpass at Redland Road. Improvements include improving signals and ramps at I-205. A new permanent “jughandle” roadway configuration will replace the left turns that used to stop the flow of traffic on OR 213 with routes that loop underneath the highway.

Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures on OR 213 in both directions between I-5 and Redland Road and on Clackamas River Drive, Prairie Schooner Road, Redland Road and Washington Street for various work activities.

Oregon Highway 217 (Beaverton-Tigard Highway)

Oregon Highway 217 (Beaverton-Tigard Highway), TV Highway/Canyon Road to U.S. 26

Project Description: This project paves OR 217 in both directions from TV Highway/Canyon Road (OR 8) to U.S. 26, including the OR 217/U.S. 26 interchange. The following ramps will also be paved: Walker Road southbound on-and off-ramps, Canyon Road southbound off-ramp, Canyon Road northbound on-ramp, Barnes Road northbound off-ramp and the Barnes Road southbound on-ramp. Walker Road will also be paved at the ramp terminals.

Traffic Impacts: None anticipated this week. This project is substantially complete.

Oregon Highway 217 (Beaverton-Tigard Highway), U.S. 26 to I-5

Project Description: This project will make operational and safety improvements on OR 217, including widening the right shoulders on three sections of OR 217, paving both directions of OR 217 from U.S 26 to I-5, improving signage in the OR 217 corridor, and upgrading the center median barrier.

Traffic Impacts: This week, motorists can expect the following impacts:

  • Weather permitting, OR 217 northbound will be completely CLOSED between OR 10 and OR 8 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday (May 17), Monday (May 20) and Tuesday (May 21), for paving. A signed detour using OR 10 and OR 8 will be available. This work will be rescheduled if it rains.
  • The left lane on OR 217 in both directions will be closed at night (9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.) between U.S. 26 and I-5, Monday through Saturday morning.

Oregon Highway 224 (Milwaukie Expressway)

Oregon Highway 224 (Milwaukie Expressway) at SE Webster Road/Lake Road

Project Description: This project will upgrade the traffic signal at the intersection of OR 224 and SE Webster Road/Lake Road, west of I-205 in Oatfield.

Traffic Impacts: There will be daytime shoulder closures at the intersection for electrical work.

 

Oregon Highway 224 (Milwaukie Expressway), SE 17th Avenue to east of SE Oak Street

Project Description: This project will remove and replace all the light poles and underground electrical conduit on a one-mile section of OR 224 in both directions between SE 17th Avenue and east of SE Oak Street in Milwaukie.

Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect daytime right lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on OR 224 eastbound and westbound, Monday through Friday, for installation of new electrical conduit.

Oregon Highway 281 (Dee Highway)

Oregon Highway 281 (Dee Highway) at Trout Creek (milepost 13.1)

Project Description: This project will repair the Trout Creek culvert under OR 281 (Dee Highway) between the railroad tracks and Trout Creek Ridge Road in Hood River County.

Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect intermittent daytime lane closures this week with flaggers directing traffic and delays of less than 20 minutes for culvert preparation work. Please also watch out for equipment and personnel working on the shoulders.
