Oregon 217 Paving and Stormwater Detention Projects
Project Information

In July 2012, contractors for ODOT began work on two projects on OR 217:

** Paving project: The section of OR 217 between TV Highway/Canyon Road and U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) will be paved and striped in both directions, including the OR 217/U.S. 26 interchange.   The following ramps will also be paved: Walker Road southbound on-and off-ramps,  Canyon Road southbound off-ramp, Canyon Road northbound on-ramp, Barnes Road northbound off-ramp and the Barnes Road southbound on-ramp.  Walker Road will also be paved at the ramp terminals.  Most work will be complete in November 2012.  Work was complete in May 2013.
** Stormwater detention project: A stormwater detention facility will be built on OR 217 northbound at the Walker Road interchange to manage stormwater discharge to nearby Messenger Creek.  Work was complete in December 2012.
OR 217 Modernization Project
Emery & Sons Construction, Inc., a contractor for the Oregon Department of Transportation, completed construction in February 2012 on the OR 217 Modernization project. The project took place on OR 217 from TV Highway to U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) and included the following elements:
  • Adding a third northbound through lane on OR 217 from the TV Highway on-ramp to the Sunset Highway
  • Building retaining walls and improving drainage on OR 217
  • Lengthening the Wilshire Street overpass to accommodate the wider highway
  • Improving visibility and safety on the Wilshire Street off-ramp in the OR 217/U.S. 26 interchange
  • Restriping OR 217 southbound to add an auxiliary lane from the Wilshire Street on-ramp to the Walker Road off-ramp
  • Widening the Walker Road off-ramp from OR 217 northbound.
Motirists now have three northbound through lanes between TV Highway and the Sunset Highway.  The additional northbound lane will help eliminate the weaving that occurs between TV Highway and Walker Road as motorists are simultaneously entering and exiting the highway.  In addition, sight distance and safety is improved when traveling between OR 217 northbound and U.S. 26 eastbound.
