Construction continues on OR 35 Polallie Creek Bridge Replacement
August 17, 2011

Construction work continues on the replacement of the Polallie Creek Bridge on OR 35 (Mt. Hood Highway).  Temporary traffic signals are in place at the intersection of OR 35 and Cooper Spur Road.  Traffic on OR 35 is restricted to one lane for ¼-mile and is controlled by these temporary signals until approximately November 2011.  Delays on OR 35 are expected to be minimal.

The Polallie Creek Bridge project is located on OR 35, at milepost 73.9, approximately 26 miles south of Hood River.  The project started last summer and was suspended during the winter months.  The completion date for the project will be November 2011. The ODOT contractor for this project is JAL Construction Inc. of Bend, Oregon.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, both directions of OR 35 will be controlled by a signal, with one direction of traffic passing through the work area at a time.  There will also be a signal at the intersection of Cooper Spur Road and OR 35.

You can get Weekly Construction News, which details the traffic impacts for the following week.  It is updated every Friday.

Project Background

This project will replace two culverts, which currently carry Polallie Creek under OR 35, with a single span structure.  In the past this area has experienced debris flows in the winter damaging the roads and bridges.  This project will raise the roadway and bridge up 4 feet to better accommodate minor debris flows.  The new bridge will also create an open stream flow, providing unrestricted fish passage.  The bridge will be constructed in two parts, each side at a time and after which the two sides will be joined.

Project Budget

The construction budget is $2.1 million and uses State of Oregon funds.
