Deterioration Photos (page 2)

The railings, both on the bridge (upper photo) and on the Bridge Avenue ramps (lower photo) are being repaired and upgraded to meet current crash-resistance standards.
The bridge deck was badly worn and rutted, and many bridge joint seals were missing, allowing vehicle-contaminates in the storm water to drain directly into the Willamette River below. The bridge deck is being completely replaced and the number of bridge joints is being substantially reduced.
Inspections showed the bridge's main cables are generally in good condition, but their corrosion protection is wearing thin.

Some of the vertical suspension cables show wear and are being repaired or replaced and repainted to reduce corrosion.
| The sidewalks are crumbling away at the joints and from beneath the structure (note exposed rebar, in the second photo from right, above). |
