U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) Bridge Replacement Project: Milepost 54.6 - 57.8
Project Overview
This Oregon Transportation Improvement Act project will replace two aging bridges along U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway). U.S. 26 is an important route to reach coastal communities that rely on tourism for economic prosperity. To ensure continued safety and to keep traffic moving smoothly and efficiently along westbound U.S. 26 in the North Plains area the Oregon Department of Transportation must replace these aging bridges.

Bridges being replaced are located on:
• U.S. 26 westbound over McKay Creek at milepost 57.8, between NW Jackson School Road and NW Glencoe Road.
• U.S. 26 westbound over East Fork Dairy Creek at milepost 54.6, between Northwest Dersham Road and the Oregon Highway 6 interchange.

Estimated project schedule:
• Construction Bid Opening: April 2010
• Project Completion: Fall 2011
Total project cost is estimated at $7.2 million, and funding will come from OTIA bonds.

For more information, read the project information paper.

This project, currently in the design phase, requires drilling for geotechnical investigations. Drilling samples taken during this work will be used to provide the necessary subsurface information to design bridge supports, retaining walls, pavement and embankments in advance of construction which is scheduled to start in June 2010. The drilling will take place this fall and will require temporary lane closures on U.S. 26. Expect temporary shoulder closures as well. Watch for roadside work crews and construction equipment.  Look here for weekly traffic impact information, once construction begins.

During the construction period, two lanes of traffic will be open on U.S. 26.  Temporary single lane closures may be necessary.
