| OR 202: Nehalem River (Banzer) Bridge Replacement (milepost 44) |
| Project Information |
The Oregon Department of Transportation is designing a project to replace the existing Banzer Bridge over the Nehalem River, located on OR 202 (Nehalem Highway) near Banzer Rd., between Mist and Birkenfeld. The bridge is being replaced because of significant cracking on the deck surface, substandard rail and narrow roadway width. Project elements include:
* Constructing a new bridge with wider lanes and shoulders
* Shifting the road alignment to the north to meet the new bridge
* Constructing water quality facilities

| Traffic impacts |
Motorists should expect up to 20 minute delays during construction. Once half of the new bridge is constructed, motorists will shifted to the new section while the other half is built. During this time (likely in 2011), there will be a temporary traffic signal on OR 202 controlling one-way traffic on the new bridge. Loop detectors will be installed so the signal will respond to actual traffic. Due to the close proximity of Flora St. to the construction, there will also be a traffic signal at the end of Flora St. controlling left and right turns on the highway. The signal will be in operation 24 hrs/day.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2010 and finish fall 2011.
