Oregon 213 Safety Project
This was a $5.8 million safety project on the section of OR 213 from Conway Drive to South Henrici Road. There had been a history of crashes in the area, primarily rear-end collisions. As part of the project, a continuous left turn lane was built to provide a safe refuge for left-turning motorists. Click here to see the OR 213 Conway to Henrici Project fact sheet.
ODOT designed the project to include improvements required to meet City of Oregon City codes for this section of roadway. Street trees, a planter strip and sidewalks were included in the design. Click here to view a typical cross-section from the concept plans.
Although the widening required the removal of some trees from the ODOT right-of-way, the project design minimized these impacts. As the project developed, it became clear that the only other alternative would be to remove several homes and businesses, which would be costly both for the project and for the community.
The new street trees and groundcover was selected from the street tree list and native plant list provided by the City of Oregon City. Using native plants helps ensure that the new additions will establish easily and thrive in the environment.

Oregon 213 Preservation Project
The pavement on Oregon 213 in the section between Henrici Road to South Monte Carlo Way was severely rutted and worn. The $950,000 preservation part of this project provided a new surface for this section of the roadway, which will be smoother and safer for all users.
Schedule and Timing
The two projects were completed April 2009.
