Glenn Jackson Bridge (I-205) Bridge Joint Project

Project Information
Project location and overview
The I-205 Glenn Jackson Bridge Repair project is replacing deck joints on the north end of the structure, mile post 25.61 to 27.18. The Glenn Jackson Bridge is co-owned by the states of Oregon and Washington, with Oregon responsible for maintenance of the structure.
The Glenn Jackson Bridge is a crucial link for commuters, freight and other traffic traveling the coastal corridor. Portland International Airport is located to the south of the bridge. There are approximately 140,000 vehicles a day that travel north and south across the bridge.

Project details

Twenty deck joints on the Interstate 205 Glenn Jackson Bridge north of Government Island are in need of replacement. This project is replacing these deck joints on both directions of I-205 at the north end of the bridge. (The deck joints on the south channel structure were repaired/replaced nine years ago.)
Traffic impacts
ODOT allowed the contractor to close two lanes at a time on the I-205 Glenn Jackson Bridge for several weekends during the project. The two-lane closures around the clock on weekends are nearly over.

The contractor expects to use one additional weekend of two-lane closures this summer on the southbound I-205 bridge in addition to weeknight lane closures on both directions of I-205. Most of the remaining work is final striping on both directions of I-205 and some additional bridge joint work. This work is weather dependent.
During the week, nighttime lane closures are allowed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. During the weekend, when traffic volume is lower, nighttime lane closures are allowed from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. Three lane closures are only allowed after 11 p.m.
Look here for the weekly construction news that details traffic impacts on the project, updated every Friday. Please call 5-1-1 or visit www.tripcheck.com or the project website for the latest closure information.

I-205 Multi-Use Path Impacts
The path will remain open when the striping and bridge joint work is taking place. However, bicyclists and pedestrians should expect some narrowing of the path at the bridge joint locations during work periods. Please be aware of construction activity in the area as you ride or walk by.
Construction Schedule
Contractor Wildish Construction Co. of Eugene, Ore., started work on this project in spring 2010 and finished work in summer 2011.
