| U.S. 101: Millport Slough Bridge (Lincoln City) |
| Overview |
Bridging part of the lower Siletz River tidal estuary, the Millport Slough Bridge needs to be replaced. The old bridge is too narrow for modern vehicles and is supported by old rotting wood piles. ODOT is responsible for the safety of the bridge. If nothing is done, the bridge will continue to weaken, and could eventually fail.
The new bridge will improve the federally protected Siletz Bay estuary habitat by deepening the water channel to improve fish passage, restoring wetlands, and restoring the water channel to its historical banks. It will also be more stable during large seismic events, due to ground improvements being made during construction.

The project is scheduled for construction to begin fall 2009. Some signage and minor work is expected to start in September, but the majority of construction work is expected to begin in November.
Please check our weekly construction updates for more information during the construction period.
Traffic will be kept moving during construction by building the first two lanes of the four lane bridge, and then routing traffic on to the new lanes. Height, weight and length restrictions are not expected, though night time short term lane closures can be expected.
