Neahkahnie Mountain Rock Wall Construction
The Neahkahnie Mountain Rock Wall was completed in 1941. A historic rock-faced masonry wall spanning three quarters of a mile, it reflects the spirit of the era.
Over the years the Neahkahnie Mountain Rock Wall has been pushing outward, now part of it is unstable, leaning heavily outward and away from the mountain.
An 800 foot portion of the 3700 foot rock retaining wall is failing. ODOT crews installed a temporary buttress to minimize further outward movement, but a permanent fix is required to maintain the stability of the wall.
The project will disassemble the failing portion of the wall piece by piece. All disassembled pieces will be numbered and put back together as they were originally, retaining the historic structure of the wall. The reassembly should fix the current failure and protect against the same problems in the future.
