| U.S. 26: Necanicum River Skiberene Bridge |
| Overview |
The purpose of this project is to widen the existing 27 foot bridge to 40 feet, which would create two 12 foot travel lanes and two eight foot shoulders. An alternative to widening the existing bridge was discussed. The alternative includes constructing a new parallel bridge to the east for the northbound traffic but would likely be more expensive.
Narrow bridges primarily need to be widened in order to move freight efficiently. A wider bridge is also a safer bridge because vehicles have more room to maneuver past each other.

The project is scheduled for construction late 2011 to early 2012.
Please check our weekly construction updates for more information during the construction period.
During construction southbound traffic will use the existing bridge and a single lane detour bridge will be constructed to the east for northbound traffic. The detour bridge will be removed and the stream banks restored once the bridge work is complete.
