U.S. 101: Necarney Creek (Sam Reed) Bridge Repair
Overview
Necarney Creek (Sam Reed) Bridge on U.S. 101 at mile post 40, just north of Manzanita, required immediate repair as a result of an unknown vehicle striking the bridge railing on or about March 10. ODOT crews temporarily stabilized the damaged concrete section using heavy steel beams. Subsequent inspections revealed that immediate repairs were warranted. The 35,000 pound section of damaged railing and sidewalk was in danger of falling and damaging bridge supports.

A contractor out of Stayton, Oregon State Bridge Construction, removed the unstable railing on April 17. For the remainder of the project, expect 24-hour single lane closures and brief, intermittent total closures to move heavy equipment as needed. Expect delays of up to 20 minutes or use an alternate route.

ODOT expects the repairs to take about a month with completion in late May or early June 2009.
