U.S. 26: Volmer Creek Bridge and Johnson Creek Bridge
Overview
The Volmer Creek Bridge and Johnson Creek Bridge are both in need of replacement. Parts of the wood structures supporting the bridges have splits, are wet, and have moss growing on them.  The stream channel flow is also eroding some of the foundation’s support system.

New bridges will address these issues and bring the railings and transitions from the roadway to the bridge deck up to current standards. Sub-standard structural issues affect bridge load ratings which can impact freight mobility.

Bridge construction will employ accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques that should reduce on-site construction time and will eliminate the need to construct detour bridges. This reduces impacts to environmentally sensitive wetlands in the area and reduces overall project costs.

Public Involvement
Comments or questions may be directed to Project Leader Melissa Sutkowski via email or telephone, (503) 325-4289.

Construction is expected to begin late 2010 to early 2011 and will involve a series of week long single lane restrictions.  Pile driving operations may require short term overnight road closures.  This is expected to occur early in the construction process.

Please check our weekly construction updates for more information during the construction period.
