I-105/OR126E- The on-ramp to eastbound I-105/OR126E from Pioneer Parkway East will be closed to large trucks until approximately November 20. Trucks should use alternate routes such as Q Street or Centennial Blvd. to access I-105/OR126E via Mohawk Blvd. During the truck detour, Lane Transit District (LTD) Gateway EmX crews will modify the eastbound on-ramp to match the newly widened Pioneer Parkway East.
OR569: BELTLINE HIGHWAY AT COBURG RD. INTERCHANGE
This project realigns the eastbound off ramp onto Coburg Road, adding additional turn lanes and storage for stopped vehicles. An additional turn lane will also be added to the westbound Beltline off ramp to Coburg Rd. Both traffic signals at the ramp terminals will be replaced to facilitate the additional lanes. Some small changes will be made to Coburg Rd. curbs, sidewalks, and turn lanes. A sound wall will be constructed along the new eastbound off ramp, along with new illumination replacing the existing. Completion date for this contract is December 31, 2009.
Traffic is scheduled to move onto the new East Bound off ramp on this week, weather permitting. Please watch for traffic changes as you travel on Beltline Highway. Once traffic is on the new ramp, removal of the old ramp will begin. There may be striping, guardrail, and sign installations this week. There may be nighttime lane closures after 7:00 p.m. on Coburg Road for signal and sidewalk work. There may also be lane closures on eastbound Beltline Road at night. The electrical subcontractor will continue installing poles and conduits in various locations for traffic signals, illumination, and CCTV installations. Watch for flagging operations and construction vehicles entering and leaving the work site. (Chuck Lemos, Project Manager, 541-744-8080; Bill Anderson, Inspector, 541-968-6488)

FLORENCE AREA
OR126: N. Fork Siuslaw River Bridge
Florence-Eugene Highway; MP 0.8-MP 1.51
This project replaces a bridge located on Highway 126 over the North Fork of the Siuslaw River. The existing bridge does not meet current deign standards for shoulder width, vehicle crash protection barrier, or earthquake sustainability standards. Deterioration of the existing structure has been accelerating and maintenance costs are increasing. The existing structure will be replaced with a new two-lane bridge in a new alignment just south of the existing structure. The new bridge will meet all current standards for shoulder width, vehicle crash protection barrier, and earthquake sustainability. Sight distance will be improved at North Fork Road.
Traffic has been switched to the new structure. The left turn lane from eastbound OR126 to North Fork Road has been temporarily closed during this stage of construction and will remain closed for several months. Demolition of the temporary work bridge and existing bridge will begin soon. There will be occasional one-lane closures. Watch for flaggers directing traffic and for trucks entering and exiting the highway.
Boaters should pay attention to the signs on the existing bridge and work bridge directing you to the boating channel. (Steve Templin, Assistant Project Manager, Dave Butler, Senior Inspector)
US101: Siuslaw River Bridge
Pacific Coast Highway: MP 191
This project includes major structural, mechanical and electrical upgrades to the existing draw bridge over the Siuslaw River in Florence. The existing bridge completed in 1936 is currently operating with original equipment. The bridge will be upgraded to accommodate larger truck loads, structural steel will be repainted, and all electrical and mechanical systems will be upgraded to current technology. In addition, several aesthetic improvements will be made including cleaning the concrete and replacing all doors and windows.
Major painting operations have been completed. Over the next month, the contractor will remove the containment and do any required touch-ups. They will also begin concrete repair and strengthening work on the north tied arch.
Work continues on new conduit and wiring in the north pier houses and is beginning in the south pier houses. Work will continue through the summer and fall, with completion next year. The contractor has begun daytime lane closures which will continue until spring. Watch for flaggers directing traffic and for trucks entering and exiting the highway.
Boaters should pay attention to the signs on the existing bridge and work bridge directing you to the boating channel. At least one lift span of the bridge will remain in operation for the duration of the project. (Steve Templin, Assistant Project Manager, 541-744-8080; Nate Neal, Inspector, 541-953-8211)
