Officials seek community input on transportation issues at the Junction of U.S. 101 and Oregon 6
TILLAMOOK—The Oregon Department of Transportation invites community members to attend an open house from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at the Tillamook Library (1716 3rd Street) to learn more about alternatives for improving the intersection of U.S. 101 (Pacific Coast Highway) and Oregon 6 (Wilson River Highway).
As part of the U.S. 101/Oregon 6 Alternatives Study, officials will present various options and will seek public input for improving safety and mobility at the intersections of 1st Street and Main Avenue, 1st Street and Pacific Avenue, 3rd Street and Main Avenue as well as 3rd Street and Pacific Avenue in downtown Tillamook. These busy intersections link U.S. 101 and Oregon 6.
“The goal is to review existing options and be ready to proceed with sound alternatives to meet federal environmental analyses requirements,” said ODOT Planner Ingrid Weisenbach. “Ultimately, we want to move forward with functional and affordable transportation improvements that meet community needs as funding becomes available.”
The project will be informed by a Stakeholder Advisory Committee comprising business owners, residents, community leaders and elected officials from the City of Tillamook and Tillamook County. The project team will consider transportation system improvements to better serve everyone – passenger cars, freight trucks, cyclists and pedestrians – while advancing the City of Tillamook’s goals for revitalizing downtown.
The study is expected to be complete in summer 2009.
