Repairs on Oregon 202 (Nehalem Highway) will begin tomorrow
ASTORIA – Contractors working for the Oregon Department of Transportation will repair storm damage on Oregon 202 (Nehalem Highway) and Oregon 53 (Necanicum Highway) over the next two weeks.
Big River Construction, Inc., out of Astoria, will begin repairing Oregon 202 at mile point 5.5 on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 5 a.m. Recent storms and flooding undermined a section of the road, causing part of the shoulder to fall away and destabilizing part of the road bed. The work will include about 140 by 40 feet of excavation and repaving. The contractor will also pave at mile point 6, where ODOT crews affected temporary repairs to a sunken grade during the last storm.
Expect delays as work requires single lane closures controlled by flaggers. Work will continue around the clock, weather permitting. If the weather stays relatively dry, the contractor estimates completion of the repairs on Oregon 202 this week.
After repairs are completed, the contractor will shift to repair a section of Oregon 53, where ODOT crews temporarily stabilized a sunken grade at mile point 13.6. Work on Oregon 53 could begin as early as Thursday. ODOT will send out another release as the schedule is confirmed.
Please drive with care through the area and watch for crews working near travel lanes.
