Public asked to review and comment on proposed alternatives
ASTORIA – The Oregon Department of Transportation would like the public to attend a meeting to comment on transportation improvement alternatives in Miles Crossing and Jeffers Garden. The meeting will be held at the Lewis and Clark Elementary School Cafeteria on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 4 – 6 p.m.
Members of the public are invited to discuss the various alternatives with local and state officials. The project includes concepts for U.S. 101 Business (Warrenton-Astoria Highway), Oregon 202 (Nehalem Highway), and Airport Road. Staff will also discuss next steps for improving the Lewis and Clark and Old Youngs Bay bridges, as well as recommendations for managing access along the highway.
The Miles Crossing/Jeffers Garden Transportation Plan focuses on improvements needed to address current and future use of U.S. 101 Business between the Old Youngs Bay Bridge and the Lewis and Clark Bridge in western Clatsop County. The 20-year plan explores current and future transportation needs, including safety, congestion as well as local and regional traffic patterns.
The project is in its evaluation and refinement phase. Project team members are collecting feedback before initiating work to draft the Transportation Plan. The final plan would be approved with additional public input by Clatsop County, the City of Astoria, and the City of Warrenton. The project is scheduled for 2009 completion.
