Contractors estimate completion of Oregon 202 work Friday
01/15/2009
Two lanes open overnight Thursday, one lane during paving on Friday

ASTORIA – Contractors working for the Oregon Department of Transportation are nearing completion of storm damage repairs on Oregon 202 (Nehalem Highway). Big River Construction, Inc. expects to complete a final overlay of pavement on Friday and move equipment to Oregon 53 (Necanicum Highway) on Monday. Work should begin on Oregon 53 on Tuesday.

Recent storms and flooding undermined a section of the road, causing part of the shoulder to fall away and destabilizing part of the road bed. The work on Oregon 202 includes about 140 by 40 feet of excavation and repaving. During Friday’s paving, the contractor will also pave at mile post 6, where ODOT crews temporarily repaired a sunken grade during the last storm.

Both lanes of Oregon 202 will be open overnight tonight. Expect delays as work requires single lane closures controlled by flaggers while the contractor paves on Friday.

After repairs are completed on Oregon 202, the contractor will shift to repair a section of Oregon 53. ODOT crews temporarily stabilized a sunken grade at mile point 13.6. Work on Oregon 53 should begin Tuesday.

Please drive with care through the area and watch for crews working near travel lanes.
