Necarney Creek Bridge damage requires immediate repair
Single lane closures will be required on U.S. 101 at mile post 40
An urgent repair to Necarney Creek (Sam Reed) Bridge on U.S. 101 (Pacific Coast Highway) at mile post 40, just north of Manzanita, will require 24-hour single lane closures and brief, intermittent total closures to move heavy equipment as needed. Expect delays of up to 20 minutes or use an alternate route.
An unknown vehicle struck the bridge railing on or about March 10. ODOT crews temporarily stabilized the damaged concrete railing and sidewalk section by using heavy steel beams. Subsequent inspections have shown that the damaged section continues to pull away from the bridge. Permanent repairs are required to prevent the estimated 35,000 pound concrete section from falling and potentially damaging the bridge’s steel substructure.
Holm II Inc., a contractor out of Stayton, will begin mobilizing equipment on April 16. The contractor will remove the damaged section, then effect repairs. The project will likely last for several weeks. As more information is available, an updated timeline and additional project information will be included within ODOT’s weekly construction updates.
