Astoria-Megler lane closure on Friday
04/28/2009
ASTORIA – The Oregon Department of Transportation will close a traffic lane on the Astoria-Megler Bridge on Friday, May 1, so contractors bidding on the upcoming Astoria-Megler Bridge painting project can inspect the structure using a hydraulic lift. Single lane traffic will be controlled by flaggers from approximately 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Motorists should drive with caution, watch for people near the roadway and expect delay.

ODOT crews will operate a lift from the bridge’s surface to allow contractors to inspect the upper portion of the structure while a boat will be positioned underneath the bridge to allow contractors to inspect the lower portion of the structure.

Because the bridge is subjected to ocean salt spray, painting is important to keep the steel from degrading. The bridge was last painted in the 1980s. The project is scheduled to be offered for bid on May 21 with work beginning in 2009 and ending in 2011.
