TILLAMOOK – The Oregon Department of Transportation is working on a $2.5 million project to repair two bridges along Oregon 6 (Wilson River Highway) near Tillamook and repair one bridge along U.S. 26 between Banks and Hillsboro.
Construction on the bridges will begin in June. Bridge repairs will be done mainly from underneath the structures, with minor impacts to through traffic. Drivers should watch for roadside equipment and workers at the bridge sites starting in June. Expect minor delays.
Crews will repair one bridge over the Wilson River at Jordan Creek on Oregon 6 at mile post 18 and another bridge over the Wilson River at milepost 11.8. The third repair bridge is located on westbound U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) over the Portland & Western Railroad tracks at mile post 55.7, just east of the Dersham Road interchange. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2010.
Funding for this project comes from the Oregon Transportation Investment Act. The Oregon Bridge Delivery Partners is helping ODOT to manage the design and construction of improvements to more than 300 state highway bridges funded by the OTIA program.

The OTIA III State Bridge Delivery Program is part of the Oregon Department of Transportation’s 10-year, $3 billion Oregon Transportation Investment Act. OTIA funds are repairing or replacing hundreds of bridges, paving and maintaining city and county roads, improving and expanding interchanges, adding new capacity to Oregon’s highway system and removing freight bottlenecks statewide. Based on 2008 dollars, about 14 family-wage jobs are sustained for every $1 million spent on transportation construction in Oregon. Each year during the remainder of the OTIA program, we estimate that construction projects will sustain an average of 4,100 family-wage jobs.
