Expect delays on Game Farm Road North as temporary bridge is demolished
SPRINGFIELD–Construction crews will begin removing the temporary diversion bridge in the median of Interstate 5 above Game Farm Road North at 7 a.m. Thursday, July 31. During the removal work, flaggers will control traffic on Game Farm, resulting in delays of 10 minutes or less.
Demolition activities will run from 7 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
The diversion bridge was constructed in 2006 and first used by northbound I-5 traffic while an ODOT contractor built a new northbound I-5 bridge above Game Farm. Once that permanent northbound bridge was completed in September 2007, crews switched southbound I-5 traffic onto the diversion bridge. The permanent southbound bridge above Game Farm was completed earlier this month.
During the demolition, Eugene residents in the Crescent Avenue neighborhood wishing to access northwest Springfield should take Coburg Road to Beltline Highway east, and on to Gateway Street. Those in northwest Springfield wishing to access the Crescent Avenue area of Eugene should take Beltline west to Coburg Road.
The replacement of the I-5 bridges above Game farm is part of ODOT’s $72.5 million I-5/Beltline interchange improvement project, phase one. Other improvements include the construction of the flyover bridge, a bicycle-pedestrian bridge and new auxiliary lanes along northbound I-5 and westbound Beltline. This first phase will be complete by Nov. 30.
