Work begins this month on five Interstate 5 bridges in Cottage Grove
08/13/2007
COTTAGE GROVE — A contractor with the Oregon Department of Transportation will start work beginning Aug. 20 to replace three bridges and repair two bridges on Interstate 5 through Cottage Grove. Construction work will last until June 2009.

The I-5 bridges over Main Street in Cottage Grove will be replaced. A temporary bridge will be built immediately west of the existing southbound bridge to carry I-5 traffic while the existing bridges are demolished and rebuilt.

The London Road (6th Street) bridge over I-5 will be replaced at its existing location. The freeway on- and off-ramps will stay open during most construction work.  Local traffic that would normally use the bridge to cross I-5 will be detoured. The London Road bridge replacement will take approximately eight months to complete.

The I-5 crossings over 16th Street/Landess Road and Taylor Avenue will be repaired.

Construction crews will be working along the shoulders of I-5 southbound at Main Street through August to prepare for construction of the temporary detour bridge. Traffic impacts are not expected during this work.

The contractor for the $10.5 million project is Capital Concrete Construction, of Aumsville, Oregon.
