Interstate 5 and Sixth Street closures planned in Cottage Grove
08/17/2007
COTTAGE GROVE— The London Road (6th Street) bridge over Interstate 5 will close Aug. 20 at midnight for workers to begin rebuilding it. It is scheduled to reopen April 1, 2008.  Signs will notify drivers of detour routes. The offramp from I-5 southbound and the onramp to I-5 northbound at either end of the bridge will remain open, but bridge traffic will be detoured on Latham Road, Oregon Highway 99 and the Cottage Grove Connector at I-5 Exit 174. Demolition of the London Road Bridge is planned in October.

The right lanes of I-5, both northbound and southbound, at Sixth Street in Cottage Gove will be closed the nights of Aug. 20 through Aug. 23, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The freeway on- and offramps at Sixth Street will remain open.

The right lane of Interstate 5 southbound over Main Street in Cottage Grove will also be closed between midnight Sunday, Aug. 19, and 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20. It will also be closed the nights of Aug. 20 through Aug. 23, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.

The purpose of the lane closures is for Capital Concrete Construction, a contractor with the Oregon Department of Transportation, to install concrete barriers along the side of the road. The barriers will protect workers as they begin work to replace the I-5 bridges at Main and Sixth Streets. The contractor is setting up a project trailer on Sixth Street for the public to receive additional information. Drivers should visit www.TripCheck.com or call 511 for the most current traffic advisories.
