Repair on Oregon 22 near Big Cliff Lake requires lane closure
Erosion on the highway’s shoulder creates safety concerns
DETROIT, Ore. – Beginning in mid-September, Contractors working for the Department of Transportation will repair Oregon 22 (North Santiam Highway) at mile post 41, about nine miles west of Detroit. Erosion has undermined a part of the shoulder, and repair is necessary to prevent further damage to the highway.
ODOT is coordinating the repair with the Army Corps of Engineers, which is working on the flood gates at Big Cliff Dam. Because the water level is low for this work, it will allow contractors to perform repairs concurrently on Oregon 22.
In order to complete the highway repair work while the Corps maintains low enough water levels, the highway will be flagged through a single lane around the clock while contractors build a retaining wall to prevent further shoulder erosion.
The contractor will mobilize on site and may begin work on Sept. 16. The work should be complete by Oct. 12 with two-way traffic restored by Oct. 5. Expect delays through the area while work is ongoing or use an alternate route.
