New Youngs Bay Bridge open house
09/12/2007
Contractor and ODOT to show slides and answer questions about bridge upgrades
ASTORIA – ODOT and the contractor hired to upgrade the New Youngs Bay Bridge will show slides and discuss the project at an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 204 West Marine Drive, the Astoria Holiday Inn Express.
Traffic impact from bridge work
The bridge work will cause intermittent nighttime lane or bridge closures beginning in mid to late September.  Lane closures may result in delays of up to 20 minutes and will be controlled by flaggers.
A signed detour will be established for bridge closures.  Motorists will be diverted to U.S. 101 Alternate (Warrenton Astoria Highway) when the New Youngs Bay Bridge is closed.
Motorists are advised to check TripCheck.com for bridge status updates.  To avoid congestion during lane closures, motorists may consider using U.S. 101 Alternate to cross Youngs Bay.
About the project
Minor construction on the $8 million, two year New Youngs Bay Bridge Project has begun, and major work is slated to begin in mid-October.  The project will address structural modernization as well as replacement of the lift-span control panel, computer monitoring system, electrical systems, safety barriers and traffic gates.  The bridge will also be painted.
